So you want to be a

satellite campus

Do you want to learn how the Kitten College at Animal Welfare League of Arlington (the original pilot campus) went from saving just 92 kittens a year with 28 foster families to saving more than 1,500 kittens a year with almost 300 foster families? Or how the Kitten College at Prince George County Animal Shelter (an original satellite campus) marked its first year ever without euthanizing a neonate for space in 2023? Or even how the Kitten College at Middleburg Humane Foundation (an original satellite campus) developed such a robust program that AWLA no longer pulls kittens from them? They now transfer kittens INTO their program due to increased capacity for care.

National Kitten College can show you how to expand your programs, increase your capacity for care, and elevate your lifesaving capabilities in a way that's custom to your shelter/rescues needs.

Becoming a satellite campus is an easy three-step process and National Kitten College is here to guide you along the entire way.

First

Attend an Open House!

National Kitten College regularly hosts informational sessions or "Open Houses" via virtual, online webinars. These Open Houses will include detailed information on:

  1. What exactly is National Kitten College
  2. National Kitten College learned experiences
  3. The benefits of becoming a satellite campus
  4. How to join our program
  5. And more!

After attending an Open House, shelters/rescues interested in becoming a satellite campus will proceed to step two.

Register for our next open house!

We Come to You!

A National Kitten College representative will join you and your team at your facility for a 1.5 to 3 day Kitten College intensive. We will discuss:

  • Taking the fear out of caring for bottle babies.
  • Utilizing existing resources to address the needs of kittens.
  • Provide an inventory of resources including suggested acquisitions and low-cost options.
  • Recruiting and training fosters.
  • Building an engaged community.
  • How to get staff and fosters invested in the program.
  • And so much more!

The only cost of this apprenticeship intensive is the travel expenses incurred by National Kitten College. These expenses may be covered for qualified organizations.

After the program, your shelter/rescue will officially be a National Kitten College campus in training!

"Intern" With Us!

Lastly, your shelter/rescue will enter a three-month internship program with us to help assure you have all of the skills and tools you need to:

  1. Increase your lifesaving capabilities
  2. Expand your foster network and foster retention
  3. Improve live release rate for neonatal kittens
  4. Ultimately, save more kittens!

The goal of the internship process is to help onboard your shelter/rescue to the National Kitten College process and support you on your lifesaving journey. The internship is not a "test" run.

Shelters/rescues will be welcomed to the internship program automatically after completing the intensive training.
